Psychotherapist: Drama and Movement
Words, words, mere words, no matter from the heart. (Troilus and Cressida)
Sometimes words can feel difficult to say, or sometimes, particularly in times of trauma, the words cannot be found. Drama and movement therapy can help you to discover a new vocabulary and new ways to verbalise what feels difficult to say; expression of oneself in a transformative and non-threatening way through creative mediums.
The ethos at the heart of Giulia’s practice at the Tree of Life Clinicis a holistic one, working with the whole body. Giulia practices in a client-led way and will collaborate with you to find the safest and most comfortable way of working for you.
In her practice, Giulia has witnessed the creative arts enabling feelings to be expressed and successfully managed around sexual trauma through art, an eating disorder through movement, and loss or resettlement through story.
There is also a space for talking. Sessions will start with a verbal check-in before being adapted to meet your need at that time. Examples of creative work include drama, story work, movement, use of voice, therapeutic cards and art. Dramatherapists work with symbolism and metaphor using the creative medium as a ‘bridge’ between the real world and the imaginary world. This is very effective in ensuring clients feel safe and that difficult thoughts and feelings are explored and managed while being kept at a distance.
Giulia has always been passionate about drama as a means of communication, self-expression and healing, both in her work as an actress and subsequently as a dramatherapist.
In nearly 10 years of practice Giulia has worked in private healthcare, community settings and education, in both the UK and overseas. These experiences mean she is adaptable in her approach and able to work with a diverse range of people from all backgrounds.
Specialisms include trauma, eating disorders, loss and resettlement.
No previous experience of drama or movement work is required.
Giulia is registered with the HCPC (Health Care and Professions Council) and BADth (British Association of Dramatherapists), and fully insured (including Public Liability). Giulia also has a DBS Clearance.
